Instructions for Manuscript Submission

Deadline for Full Papers:
Papers must be received by 23:00 (Tokyo time)
on the 25 March 2012. No exceptions given!!
  • Only authors whose submitted abstracts” were selected for presentation at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons (JSPS), may submit their papers to be considered for publication in the Pediatric Surgery International (Japanese Issue). The style of presentation will not matter (any type of presentation will be considered) as long as it was selected for presentation at the 49th JSPS meeting.
  • *New for JSPS 2012*
    Abstracts that have been presented elsewhere but have not been previously published “WILL" be considered for presentation and publication into Pediatric Surgery International (PSI) (Japanese Issue)
  • Please make sure you have read and followed the guidelines for “SUBMISSION SUMMARY" at the bottom of the page BEFORE submitting your manuscript.
  • The deadline for submission is 23:00 (Tokyo time) Sunday 25 March 2012 . Full papers must be submitted ELECTRONICALLY to the JSPS Publications Committee office. The papers selected for publication will be determined by the Publications Committee. Decisions on publications are subject to peer review and page limitations. Thus, there is no guarantee that these manuscripts will be published. IRB and Animal Care assurances, including the IRB or Animal Care application number, should be provided.

SUBMISSION SUMMARY

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
(Failure to do so may result in your paper being rejected for review)

  • Submission items MUST include ‘SEPARATE’ files for:
    (1)Cover letter (2)Manuscript text (3)Tables / Artwork
  • In the “Materials and Methods” section, institutional names should NOT be given, since all manuscripts will be reviewed in a BLIND manner. If the paper is accepted for publication institutional names may be added may be added back on in the Materials and Methods section, (if needed) by the author when making revisions.
  • Documentation of the IRB or Animal Care committee approval should be included in the methods section of the manuscript. Approval must be documented in the text.
  • Manuscripts submitted for publication must contain a statement to the effect that all human studies have been approved by the appropriate ethics committee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted. The JSPS Publications Committee reserves the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements. The author will be held responsible for false statements or failure to fulfil the above-mentioned requirements.
  • Authors must indicate whether or not they have a financial relationship with the organization that sponsored the research. This note should be added in a separate section before the reference list. If no conflict exists, authors should state: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.
  • Mark the location of the figures/tables in the margin at the same level where they appear in the text (This is easy to do in Microsoft Word, using the insert command, then choosing the text box and typing "figure 1", etc.).
  • You will receive an e-mail confirming that the publications committee has received your manuscript. Separate files of the submission items are to be submitted to the JSPS Publications Committee office to “BOTH” the following e-mail addresses:

      Please put the first author's last name in the subject box of the e-mail

      (e.g., Subject: Jordan PSI manuscript).

  • Artworks are to be submitted as SEPARATE JPEG files and must not include any description. Name your figure files with "Fig" and the figure number, e.g., Fig1.eps. If the JPEG is > 2 megabytes, the file size for the picture should be reduced until it is < 2 megabytes. The total size of the attachments in a single e-mail must be < 10 megabytes.
  • Manuscripts coming from non-native English speakers must be accompanied by a signed document that indicates the manuscript has been checked and proof-read by a native English speaker. This document should be signed by the proof-reader and the author of the manuscript.
  • Manuscripts coming from non-JSPS members will need to be sponsored from a JSPS member. Information of “Sponsor” (a JSPS member) such as name, institution, e-mail address, telephone and fax number MUST be provided.

The ultimate number of papers accepted for publication will depend upon the number of manuscripts received by the due date, inclusion of the mandatory IRB or animal services application number, and the ability to conform to the overall page limit of the issue as dictated by Pediatric Surgery International. In addition to being reviewed for mandatory compliance with deadlines and guidelines of manuscript preparation, papers will be assessed for originality, importance, scientific merit, study design, and writing quality.
